Jermuk is one of the oldest health resorts of Armenia. The physiochemical structure of it's mineral waters is similar to the well-known waters of Karlovy Vary and Zheleznovodsk.

Jermuk is located on the upper stream of the Arpa River, 173 km from Yerevan, at a height of 1980-2080 m above the sea level. It is surrounded by wooded mountains of Suniq with lush alpine vegetation. The height of mountains is 2500-3000. Arpa River's deep canyon divides the Mountain Chain of Vayots Dzor into two parts. It is famous with its delicious sorts of fish such as koghak and trout.

The air of Jermuk is incrediably pure and fresh and filled with flower flavor. The climate is typically mountainous. Summer is cool and sunny and winter is long and snowy. On the hottest days the temperature reaches +32C, and the minimum temperature is -350C. The annual atmospheric precipitation is 800 mm, atmospheric pressure - 600 mm. The city has 40 sources of hot and cold mineral water, wich can be used in internal and external ways.

From the top of the hills you can see a fascinating panorama of Jermuk. Today the area of the town is 2100 hectares, 400 hectares of which are the area of the health resort, 1600 hectares are covered with forests, and 100 hectares are residential area. One of the most well-known industrial factories of the town is the mineral water factory “Jermuk”, which annually bottles 100 million bottles. The waters of Jermuk rank among the carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon and sulphate, chloride, sodium, calcium, magnesium waters. Now a number of works are being carried out to use the whole climatic wealth of the health resort.

The Vayots Dzor's territory is rich of historical and architectural unique monuments. They are Gndevank (X century), St. Astvatsatsin hewn stone monastery (XIII century), Noravank (XIII century) Tanahat (XIII century), Tatev (IX-XIII centuries) and many other monuments. The travelling agencies of the town offer many interesting trips and campings to all these monuments and picturesque places.

The complex of treatment in the health resort includes the internal and external use of mineral warm waters, curing food, climatic, physiotherapeutic measures, regime, etc. Patients suffering from disorders of gastrointestinal system (gastritis, gastric and duodenum ulcer), liver, pancreas disease, musculoskeletal system, peripheral nervous system, gynecological diseases and metabolic disorders (diabetes, diathesis) are cured in Jermuk.
